A woman has denied killing an 11-year-old girl in east London with bedbug poison.

Jesmin Akter, from Shadwell, is charged with manslaughter and importing a regulated substance without a licence.

Ms Akter, 33, allegedly scattered pellets of aluminium phosphide around her flat in November 2021, which created a dangerous gas when activated by moisture.

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, died the following month.

Ms Akter, who is on bail, is due to be tried at the Old Bailey in July.
