Officers fired a Taser before a man was arrested on suspicion of affray at the scene

A man was Tasered by police after bus passengers were threatened with an unknown substance in south London.

The Met Police said a man made threats on a bus in London Road, Thornton Heath, at about 20:30 GMT on Sunday.

The force said no-one was held hostage and the substance, which was found not to be harmful, was not thrown.

Officers fired a Taser before a 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray. He remains in hospital in a non-life threatening condition.

Police added that officers believed the man had taken drugs.
