Anthony Littler: Two men arrested in 1984 murder case

The Met relaunched its appeal for information over Anthony Littler's death in December 2023

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murdering a man near a Tube station nearly 40 years ago.

Anthony Littler, 45, was attacked after leaving East Finchley Underground in north London in May 1984, the Met said.

The executive officer, who worked for Customs and Excise, who lived locally, was found with head injuries in an alleyway.

The Met Police said a 56-year-old man and another aged 57 were arrested on Thursday and remained in custody.

Two men previously arrested in December 2023 have been re-bailed until late-April.

In December 2023 the force renewed an appeal for information surrounding Mr Littler's death.

The Met said detectives believed Mr Littler was murdered in a random attack but "despite an extensive investigation, no-one has been charged".

The force added the motive for the attack remained unknown.

Det Ch Insp Neil John, who is leading the investigation, previously thanked "everyone who has already come forward with information."
