Enfield: Land Rover crashes into house following police chase

A suspected stolen Land Rover crashed into a house in north London after a police chase, the Met said.

Police said officers had attempted to stop the vehicle on Russell Road, Enfield, at about 11:30 BST.

After the driver failed to stop, and a police pursuit, the car then crashed into the property on Churchbury Lane. The driver fled the scene and is yet to be traced.

Sally Aspey, 56, who was not at home at the time, said she was "shocked".

"It's carnage," she said.

"I normally sunbathe when the weather is nice in the front garden, so if I had been at home it could have been a very different story.

"I was shocked, terrified and worried about my cat."

Ms Aspey and residents of three other flats in the building have been evacuated to due to suspected structural damage.

Police said nobody was injured as a result of the collision and inquiries were ongoing to trace the driver

Ms Aspey said damage had been caused to gas appliances and no-one was allowed into the building until the extent of the damage had been surveyed.

One of her neighbours, Oguz Akalin, said he heard a loud crash followed by a man running off with officers shouting after him.

The father-of-one said: "A man ran out and around four or five officers ran after him.

"It shocked us, the car passed right next to a school, if it was school day there could have been a casualty."

A Met Police spokesperson nobody was injured as a result of the collision and inquiries were ongoing to trace the driver.

London Ambulance and London Fire Brigade attended the scene.
