Investigators are examining the scene of the house fire in Walthamstow

A murder investigation has been launched after two people died in a house fire in east London, the Metropolitan Police has said.

Emergency services were alerted to the blaze just after 22:00 BST on Forest Road in Walthamstow on Sunday.

The London Fire Brigade extinguished the fire and the two people were found dead inside the property.

Officers believe there may have been an incident outside the house before the fire started.

Neither victim has yet been identified.

Det Ch Insp Webb, who is leading the investigation, said: "Two people's lives have been cut short as a result of this fire.

"If you have heard something or have information relating to the incident please don't hesitate to get in touch."
