Police said the man carried the girl into the Cringle Park area, but she managed to escape

A man who attempted to abduct a teenage girl is being sought by police.

Greater Manchester Police said the man approached the 14-year-old on Errwood Road in Burnage at about 17:20 GMT on Friday, picked her up and "carried her to a bench in the Cringle Park area".

A force representative said the man tried to "keep her in place" but she escaped when he "took a phone call".

Det Insp Helen Bagnall said the force was following up "lines of enquiry" and had begun "a full investigation".

The man was a black male, who was aged about 20 and was wearing a black puffer jacket, black joggers and white trainers.

Appealing for witnesses, Det Insp Bagnall said extra officers had been deployed in the area.

"I understand the concern that incidents of this nature will raise in the local community, but I want to reassure the public that we take such reports very seriously," she added.
