Detectives are appealing for information on a blue Mercedes used in the shooting

A CCTV image of a car used in a "brazen broad daylight" shooting has been released by detectives investigating an attempted murder.

Shots were fired at a group of men on Stockport Road, Ardwick, Manchester, at about 15:00 GMT on 21 December, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

There were no injuries reported but a member of the public's car was hit.

GMP said the blue Mercedes used in the "targeted" attack had no registration plate and was later found abandoned.

Two men have been charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

A third man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and drug offences and was later bailed pending further inquiries, the force added.

GMP said detectives had been working tirelessly to understand the full circumstances surrounding the "brazen attack which took place in broad daylight".

'Answers in community'

Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone with information on the Mercedes car used in the shooting.

It was found abandoned on Clee Avenue in Longsight, GMP said.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam footage from the Ardwick and Longsight areas between 14:30 and 15:30 on 21 December to come forward.

Det Supt Dave Meeney said: "Our investigation is moving at pace, and so far, we have arrested three people in connection, one of whom has been charged."

He added: "After the incident took place on Stockport Road in Ardwick, we believe the suspects drove to Longsight, before abandoning the vehicle on Clee Avenue.

"As is often the case, the answer to establishing the true chain of events that led to this incident and locating those responsible could lie in the community."
