Man and woman arrested over St Helens cyclist's fatal crash

Two people have been arrested after the death of a cyclist who was found injured in a road.

The man, in his 50s, was treated by paramedics following a collision in Islands Brow, St Helens, at about 06:30 GMT on Friday, police said.

He was later taken to hospital but died shortly afterwards.

A man, 60, and a woman, 31, from the St Helens area were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, according to Merseyside Police.

They were also detained for failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

Police appealed for anyone who saw a silver Skoda Fabia hatchback in the area at the time of the crash to get in touch.
