New Great Yarmouth outer harbour grain terminal opened

A new £5m grain terminal at a Norfolk port has been officially opened.

International grain merchant Gleadell Agriculture said the terminal at the new outer harbour in Great Yarmouth could handle 1,000 tonnes of grain an hour.

The new storage and drying facility has been welcomed by maltsters and hauliers, who said it would help them reach new markets.

The first ship to carry exports arrives next week.

The outer harbour allows ships of up to 25,000 tonnes to dock at the port.

Until now the nearest ports with similar sized grain terminals have been Immingham on the Humber and Tilbury on the Thames.
