A Norfolk man accused of stabbing a star of TV show Dirty Sanchez has told a jury he acted out of fear.

Mark Edward Smith, 43, of Charles Close, Toftwood near Dereham denies wounding Matthew Pritchard, 37, with intent to do him grievous bodily harm.

Mr Smith told Norwich Crown Court he had lashed out with some car keys after Mr Pritchard, from Cardiff, had pushed him out of a shop.

Mr Smith admitted he had been "obnoxious" in the Co-Op in Toftwood.

He said: "I had recognised Mr Pritchard and thought my life was at risk after seeing what he does on TV.

Cuts to throat

"I had no intentions of hurting him."

Mr Pritchard, who needed 20 stitches after the incident, is one of the stars of the MTV show Dirty Sanchez, which features the presenters taking part in dangerous stunts.

The court has heard how Mr Pritchard threw Mr Smith out of the store for being abusive towards staff when he tried unsuccessfully to cash a giro cheque without identification.

Mr Pritchard has told the court Mr Smith then stabbed him in the neck and chest.

The trial continues.
