Norwich fire station home conversion plan considered

  • Published

A Grade II listed fire station in Norwich could be converted into homes when a new station is built on the outskirts of the city in 2011.

Norfolk County Council wants to sell Bethel Street Fire Station to be developed into 14 flats.

The plans also propose using the ground floor to house offices, shops, a health centre or gallery.

But opponents say the whole of the historic 1930s building should be kept for public use.

Currently Bethel Street houses two permanently staffed fire engines and one emergency tender.
