Ships begin Norfolk offshore wind farm cable work
- Published
Work has started on a project to lay two cables from a 90-turbine off-shire wind farm to the Norfolk coast.
Three large ships are due at the Sheringham Shoal wind farm.
The first to arrive are Atlantic Guardian and diving support ship VOS Sympathy, which will clear the cable route of debris and obstacles.
The other vessel, Team Oman, will install two cables more than 12.5 miles (20 km) in length and weighing more than 3,300 tonnes.
Depending on the weather the work to lay the cables will take about four weeks.
Work on the wind farm continues and so far 16 of the 90 foundations have been laid.
The foundations measure between 164ft (50m) and 180ft (55m) and weigh between 400 and 600 tonnes.
The Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm is owned equally by Statoil and Statkraft through the joint venture company Scira Offshore Energy Limited.
