Location of free school in Norwich revealed

The location of the building which will house the new free school in Norwich has been revealed.

Kings House, a Grade II-listed Georgian house on Surrey Street, will be home to one of the first such schools in England when it opens in September.

The Free School Norwich will cater for 168 children aged from four to 11.

Eight free schools - state funded but outside of local authority control - are due to open in the autumn after Parliament passed legislation in 2010.

The school in Norwich was formed by a group of teachers and parents in the city and received business plan approval from Education Secretary Michael Gove at the end of last month.

It will have more freedom to set its own curriculum and school hours.
