Dementia unit set for approval in South Norfolk

Plans to nearly quadruple the size of a Norfolk care home are being recommended for approval despite opposition.

Three parish councils and residents object to the development of Claxton House over increased traffic fears.

Atlanta Healthcare runs the home for 15 people with learning difficulties in a Victorian country house between Claxton and Ashby Saint Mary in south Norfolk.

Councillors will decide on Wednesday whether to give permission to build a 40-bed unit for people with dementia.

South Norfolk District Council officers recognise that some aspects of the scheme might flout planning policy.

However, these concerns have been overcome by the need for more care home accommodation in the county.

Councillors will discuss the plans on Wednesday.
