Thetford town centre to get £250,000 spruce-up

Business owners in a Norfolk town are being offered a share of £250,000 to improve their shop fronts and facades.

The grant scheme will begin in May and will also to be available to restore historic features to the buildings.

It is being funded by Moving Thetford Forward (MTF) in association with Breckland Council and the Town Council.

Projects applying for up to £1,000 could get up to 80% funding while those up to £30,000 will be able to claim 60% of their costs.

The grant scheme is part of a wider £800,000 initiative by MTF to create a new town square in King Street.

MTF growth programme manager, Kevin Ward said: "By smartening up business frontages, the scheme will help attract more shoppers to Thetford and boost business in the area.

"Eligible schemes could be anything from a simple re-painting job to something more specialist such as renovating period windows".
