Norwich City fans at promotion parade

Thousands of Norwich City fans gathered in the city centre for the club's parade to celebrate Premier League promotion.

The celebrations got under way at 1800 BST with an appearance by the players on the balcony of City Hall.

After speeches, an open-top bus began its journey through the city, starting in Theatre Street.

It travelled along Rampant Horse Street and Red Lion Street and finished at the far end of Castle Meadow.

Organisers said they had expected about 40,000 football fans to gather in the city centre to congratulate their team.

"We had amazing scenes of jubilation in the streets last year after the club won promotion from League One and so we expect thousands more people to celebrate promotion to the Premier League," said Laura McGillivray, chief executive of Norwich City Council.

Castle Gardens, Castle Green, the bridge and Castle Mound were not being opened to the public or accessible as viewing areas.

The newly-refurbished Memorial Gardens, opposite City Hall, was closed to the public until about 2200 BST.

St Peters Street and Bethel Street were closed until later and buses into the city centre were being diverted throughout the evening.
