North Norfolk beaches receive seaside awards

A beach in North Norfolk has regained an award for its water quality, safety and cleanliness.

Mundesley lost its Blue Flag last year, but is now one of four beaches in North Norfolk to gain the award, given to recognise their high standards.

Cromer, Sheringham and Sea Palling are also able to fly the Blue Flag.

Campaign group Keep Britain Tidy is responsible for the Blue Flag scheme in England, regularly monitoring bathing water quality.

The beaches must also show high standards of environmental education and information, such as clear signs and beach-related activities and events.

They must also have clean and accessible toilets.

Nick Baker, North Norfolk District Council's strategic director for the environment, said: "North Norfolk is one of the cleanest districts in the country and we have some of the best seaside resorts anywhere.

"These most recent Blue Flag awards are testament to the hard work carried out throughout the year in North Norfolk in order to provide clean and safe beaches for everyone to enjoy, whether they live on the coast or are a visitor to the area."
