Asda 'would create' 300 jobs with south Norwich superstore

Up to 300 jobs would be created with the building of an Asda superstore in Norwich, the firm says.

The supermarket would be part of a new development known as Harford Place, off Hall Road.

The site includes the Bally shoe factory and has been earmarked as a potential retail area but further plans have not yet emerged.

Asda said it hoped to bring the area "back to life" and aimed to submit a planning application in early 2012.

It would be part of wider development plans including a gym, pub, offices, smaller shops and a new public square.

Spokesman Chris Martin said: "We are aware that the community has been left frustrated by a lack of progress on Harford Place being redeveloped and would reassure people that we are serious and capable of bringing our plans to fruition.

"As popular as we hope a new Asda store would be, the overall proposals are set to deliver much more than that and would result in a full regeneration of this significant location."

The plans can be viewed at St Paul's church hall on Little John Road, Tuckswood, on 9 and 10 December.
