Jimmy Jones, the former director and vice-chairman of Norwich City Football Club, has died aged 73.

The club said Mr Jones, MBE, died at The Heart Hospital in London on Tuesday night after an illness.

He became director of the Canaries in the early 80s and was there during what is regarded as the club's most successful era in the football league.

He is survived by his widow Jane, son Albert, daughter Elizabeth and six grandchildren.

Mr Jones was also once a manager of Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach and a life president of Gorleston Football Club.

He was awarded an MBE for services to sport in 2009.

In a statement, Norwich City said: "The thoughts of everyone at Carrow Road are with Jimmy's family at this sad time."
