A derelict office block in Norwich will be converted into flats after the city council granted planning permission.

The 11-storey Westlegate House, which has stood empty for about 15 years, will become 14 apartments.

The developers plan to add an additional two floors to the tower and create a new three-storey building alongside for retail and accommodation.

Construction could start in the summer and is expected to take 14 months, agents Lanpro Services said.

The top two floors are expected to become single flats offering 360 degree views of the city.

The shop space below the tower, formerly a McDonald's restaurant, will also be refurbished, and a new walkway will be built to the side.

A Grade II-listed cottage next to Westlegate House, most recently Cassacio's coffee shop, will also undergo a restoration and extension.

The developers, FW Properties and Soho Estates, bought the building for about £1 million.
