Norwich prisoner Warren Fernandez was found hanged

A drink driver jailed for killing a father-of-three in a car crash in Norfolk was found hanged in his prison cell, an inquest has heard.

Warren Fernandez, 45, of Bradwell, near Gorleston, Norfolk, was found dead in his cell at HMP Norwich on Friday.

He was jailed in November 2008 after he admitted causing the death of Andrew Mackay, 38, by driving dangerously.

Norfolk Coroner William Armstrong, who adjourned the inquest, heard the cause of death was asphyxia.

At Fernandez's sentencing hearing, Norwich Crown Court heard his BMW had spun into the path of a Ford Escort being driven by Mr Mackay on the A12 at Hopton in Norfolk in April 2008.

Mr Mackay's partner and three children, aged 14, 10 and two, were also injured and spent four nights in hospital.

Witnesses told the court Fernandez was driving like an "idiot" at speeds of about 100mph moments before the impact.
