Norwich drugs raid reveals hidden room behind cupboard

Norfolk Police said the cupboard in the garage had a hole that led to a hidden room set up for cultivation

A drugs raid in Norwich has found 33 cannabis plants and a cupboard with a false back leading to a hidden room.

Police searched the house on Mile Cross Lane on Tuesday and found the two-week-old plants in the loft.

Officers believe the hidden room, off the garage, was set-up for cultivation, although no plants were found there.

A 37-year-old man was given a formal police caution, but was not charged because the value of the cannabis plants was too small.

Norfolk Police said the 33 cannabis plants were about two weeks old and of minimal value

The police also seized lighting equipment, an extractor fan, a transformer and fertilizer from the address.

Insp Gary Brotherhood said: "Officers carried out this warrant acting on intelligence from the local community.

"While only a small amount of cannabis was recovered, the action sends a clear message that illegal drug activity will not be tolerated and that information passed to police will be acted on."

The police said a caution was deemed the most appropriate outcome based on the relatively low value of the drugs and there was no evidence of intention to supply.

Officers said the man admitted the offence at the first opportunity and was otherwise of previous good character.
