'Unexploded shell' spotted near Bacton gas terminal identified as scrap metal

A suspected unexploded shell spotted on the beach near the Bacton gas terminal on the Norfolk coast has turned out to be a piece of scrap metal.

Police cordoned off the area at about 13:15 GMT and a bomb disposal unit was called in.

A spokesman said a member of the public had reported seeing the object near Bacton.

An bomb disposal unit from RAF Wittering arrived at about 17:00 GMT and identified it as scrap metal.
