A man has been arrested over the murder of a teenage girl who went missing more than 20 years ago.

Johanna Young was 14 when she disappeared from her family home in Watton, Norfolk, on 23 December 1992.

Her body was found partially clothed, covered in scratches and lying face down in water on Boxing Day.

A man in his 40s from the Watton area has been arrested and is in police custody.

The last known sightings of Johanna were on the evening of 23 December between 19:30 and 20:45 GMT when she was seen heading towards Watton town centre.

Police were called the following morning when it was noticed she was missing. Her alarm clock had gone off at 06:00 as she was due to do a paper round.

Her body was found in a frozen pond on Boxing Day

A dog walker found one of Johanna's trainers in undergrowth near Griston Road in the town, three days after she disappeared.

Police searched the area and found her body nearby.

A post-mortem examination found she died from drowning and a fractured skull.

Johanna Young's parents said they needed "closure" and "justice"

Johanna's parents launched a fresh appeal for information in December.

"Johanna is in our thoughts all the time," Carol Young said. "We need closure and we need justice for our daughter."

Robert Young described Johanna as being "full of fun and always up to tricks".

"She was a typical teenager who could make friends with anybody," he said.
