The bodies of a man and a woman in their 80s have been found in a house in a seaside town.

The force said the married couple, named locally as Alex and Helen Lawrie, were found unresponsive.

A police cordon was put in place and Det Insp Burgess added that "detectives will carry out further inquiries to establish the full circumstances leading up to this incident".

The next of kin had been informed, he said.

Neighbours have described their shock.

"It's affected my wife, she hardly slept last night," said Alastair Mays.

"They were a very nice, devoted couple; we chatted with them most days; it's affected us badly."
