Alternative plans for the two glamping pods at the campsite (pictured) were rejected

A pair of glamping pods must be dismantled due to being in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

Plans to relocate the holiday lodges on Shrublands Farm campsite in Northrepps, after they were installed without proper permission, were rejected by North Norfolk District Council (NNDC).

The parish council and a local councillor had backed the relocation.

Planning officers ruled the pods would provide "limited benefits", which would not outweigh harm to the environment.

Landowner Jeremy Youngman had applied for the pods, which had been installed on Hungry Hill, to be relocated to Craft Lane, which is already used as a holiday site and has space for five caravans and 10 tents.

The owners of a nearby pub, the Foundry Arms, had provided a letter of support, saying Mr Youngman's campsite provided "invaluable business" and if the pub thrived it would be able to sustain employing local people.

However, Norfolk County Council's highways team objected to the plans and said Craft Lane was a single track, provided "poor access" and would be inconvenient for neighbours.

Councillors were split on the application, but ultimately sided with the recommendation put to them.

District council officers said the pods would provide limited benefits for Northrepps and not outweigh the harm caused to the AONB, which has strict environmental protections.
