The retirees say what drives them to return to Ukraine is seeing people in desperate need

Two retirees are heading to the frontline in Ukraine to deliver aid "a little bit closer to where it is needed."

Glyn Jordan and Peter Bee of Needham, Norfolk, are preparing to go to Kyiv, closer than they have ever been before.

They have already taken £500,000-worth of aid to help families and hospitals during the Ukraine war.

Mr Bee said: "We can go to bed at night and sleep peacefully - they don't know what tomorrow brings."

The retirees are preparing for their next trip, taking a total of 250 Christmas boxes to orphans and children's homes.

Peter Bee, from Needham, said he and friend Glyn Jordan would "keep helping"

Mr Bee, a retired HGV driver, said: "We started the third week the war started, and we are still doing it. We said we would only go once or twice so we'll keep helping, we'll be there.

"They need our help and I've got to, I've got to, I can't leave those children like that. Every time we go there we say we're not going back, we get there, we see their faces... we come back and we go again"

On one visit, food they delivered went to women and children sheltering in a supermarket

On previous trips they have taken items including food, which was shared by about 700 women and children who were sheltering in a supermarket.

Mr Bee, 61, said: "When you see massive graveyards with mothers and wives sobbing over the graves, for what? For a piece of land... I see people like you and me just trying to live peaceful lives and all we can do is just take love and kindness."

They hope to be able to reach their target of delivering £1m-worth of aid.

Mr Jordan said: "A lady came and spoke to us and said when this conflict is over she'd like us to go with our families and stay with them at their expense as a thank-you for what we're doing for Ukraine."
