Officers in Norwich have been using metal detectors to scour for weapons as part of the nationwide Operation Sceptre campaign

Some 57 knives were seized and multiple arrests made by Norfolk Police during an anti-knife campaign.

Between 13 and 19 November, the weapons were collected and nine arrests were made, with two people charged with possession of a knife.

During the national week of campaigning the force also carried out hotspot patrols, weapon sweeps, school engagements, and retailer visits.

Of the knives seized, 23 were handed in proactively.

The force said it also received more than 20 tip-offs from members of he public about knives and other bladed weapons.

The national Operation Sceptre highlighted the risks carrying a blade can bring, targeting offenders who use and carry knives, and reminding retailers of their responsibilities.

The week of action was supported by the parents of Joe Dix, 18, who was fatally stabbed in January 2022, when a burglary led to a knife-chase through part of the Mile Cross estate in Norwich.
