George White Junior School in Norwich has been closed to pupils following a burglary at the weekend

A junior school has had to close for a police investigation following a burglary.

Police were called to reports of suspicious activity at George White Junior School on Silver Road, Norwich, on Sunday.

Officers found people had entered multiple rooms at the site and forced open lockers.

Norfolk Constabulary said the burglary was believed to have taken place between 11:30 and 19:30 GMT.

Samantha Petchey, head teacher, said: "The trust and I were very sad to have to let parents and carers know that we had to close our school today (Monday) due to a break-in and vandalism.

"We are doing everything possible to help support the police with their investigation.

"This is a very upsetting situation and we're working hard to welcome pupils back into the school tomorrow (Tuesday)."
