Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service sent eight crews to battle the blaze

A homeowner and his neighbours managed to flee their properties after a garage went up in flames.

Eight crews spent six hours battling the blaze, in Ormesby St Margaret near Great Yarmouth, on Thursday evening.

Norfolk firefighters wearing breathing apparatus managed to extinguish the fire on Barton Way by 00:25 GMT on Friday.

Homeowner Brian Prestoe said: "No-one was harmed; that's the main thing."

The 64-year-old believed his conservatory and garage were on fire, as well as his neighbour's shed.

Sam Carpenter, 37, who lives next door, told the BBC he spotted the flames and ran inside to call 999.

"I was worried about the oil tank which is right next to where the fire was," he said.

"We don't know the extent of the damage yet. No-one's hurt at all. Everyone's safe."

The fire service was called to Barton Way at 18:19.

"Crews wearing breathing apparatus used main and hose reel jets to extinguish the fire, and a thermal image camera to check for hot spots," a statement read.
