A Norwich City fan has been handed a ban for homophobic behaviour during a match at Carrow Road
A Norwich City supporter has been banned from attending football matches following a homophobic comment he made at a match.
It happened at Carrow Road during a fixture between the Canaries and Middlesbrough on 12 November 2022.
Stavros Skapoullis, 57, from Gorleston, Norfolk, had the three-year banning order imposed by Norwich Crown Court.
He has had to surrender his season ticket, and he has been banned from all matches until 5 January 2027.
PC Mathew Ewing said the case against Skapoullis "included evidence which supports the concerns associated with hate crime at football matches".
He added: "It demonstrates that this type of language will not be tolerated. People who engage in such behaviour should be prepared to receive a football banning order which would undoubtedly affect their livelihood.
"People should be able to enjoy football matches without the fear or concern of any behaviour which might diminish that experience."
