Cromer Carnival to have Battle of Britain memorial flight display

A Spitfire will feature in the nostalgic aerial display in north Norfolk

A memorial flight commemorating the Battle of Britain will feature at a seaside carnival, organisers announced.

A Spitfire and a Hurricane were among the aircraft revealed to be taking flight at Cromer Carnival this summer.

The annual event, held from 17 to 24 August, attracts thousands of people to the seafront in north Norfolk.

Carnival organiser Tony Shipp said he was "disappointed" the Red Arrows could not return to perform but added it would still be "a great occasion".

The RAF aerobatic display team has been a consistent fixture of the celebrations since 1980 - but is touring Canada during this year's event.

"Obviously we're disappointed as they are the real crowd-puller as they are known around the world," said Mr Shipp.

"We get visitors from all over Europe when we get a Red Arrows display, but this year we were prepared for their absence."

During the 2023 carnival, the stunt experts cancelled their appearance just hours before they were due to perform after "unforeseen technical issues".

But the week-long festivities still saw revellers enjoy a beer and cider festival, a stunt show and a game of bingo involving more than 800 people.

On this year's carnival, Mr Shipp added: "We have a full programme so there is plenty for people to see and do and it should be a great occasion."
