'Nurse navigator' guides Northampton hospital patients

  • Published

People attending the casualty department at a major hospital in Northamptonshire are to be assessed on arrival by "nurse navigator".

The role has been set up at Northampton General Hospital to boost efficiency.

The specialist nurse will advise people with no potentially dangerous condition to attend other centres where they could get treated more quickly.

Samantha Dargello, matron in the minor injuries unit, said they could take the strain out of the numbers going to A&E.
