Record cut in Northamptonshire road deaths

The number of people killed and seriously injured on Northamptonshire's roads has hit a record low for the third year in a row, new figures show.

The Northamptonshire Casualty Reduction Partnership statistics show that 25 people died on the county's roads in 2010.

This is the lowest number since official records began in 1960.

This also represents a 26% reduction compared to 2009 when 34 people lost their lives.

In 2008, 35 people died on the roads, down from 57 in 2007 and 74 in 2006.

The total number of people killed or seriously injured on the roads in 2010 was 298.

This is the first time the total has ever been below 300, the partnership said.

This represents a 24% reduction compared to 2009 when there were 392 people killed or seriously injured.
