Corby Borough Council wants a street lights review

Corby Borough Council wants Northamptonshire County Council to extend the public consultation about switching off street lights.

The deadline for the public to complain about a light turned off was Friday 23 September.

To date, the county council has had more than 5,000 requests from people to turn lights back on.

Councillor Mary Butcher said: "The clocks go back in October so we won't feel the full impact till November."

She added: "Many parents are scared to let their children go to after-school clubs knowing that they have to come home in the dark."

However the leader of Northamptonshire County Council, Jim Harker, said the consultation had already been extensive and that the council was still working with the public.
