Glasgow Rangers play Corby to mark official opening

Steel Park stadium was completed in time for the new 2011 season

Corby Town play one of the biggest teams in the Scottish Premier League to mark the official opening of Steel Park.

The Steelmen will take on Glasgow Rangers at their new stadium on Rockingham Road.

The stadium, which has a capacity of 3,500, has been in use since the beginning of the season.

David Mallinger, the chairman of the club, said there was a feel-good factor around the club.

He said: "We're still buzzing from beating Kidderminster 4-1 in the FA Cup, so I wish we could open a new stadium every year."

Glasgow Rangers have pledged to bring some of their first-team squad down for the occasion.

"There are lots of Rangers followers in Corby and they'll see players like John Fleck, Gregg Wylde, Rhys McCabe, Kane Hemmings, Kirk Broadfoot, and USA international Alejandro Bedoya, so it's a good squad," said Mr Mallinger.

The match kicks off tonight at 19:45 GMT.

Corby town are currently doing well in both the Blue Square North League and the FA Cup. Team Captain Phil Gulliver is hoping to attract more Rangers fans.

"They are beatable. In the form we're in, we can beat anyone. They're going to bring a massive following so hopefully it'll raise the profile of Corby Town," he said.
