Ringstead quarry proposals meets opposition

Residents at a village in Northamptonshire have raised concerns about proposals for a quarry to be built in the area.

Mick George Limited has been looking at extracting two million tonnes of limestone over 15 years from farmland on the edge of Ringstead.

In a public meeting, residents said they were worried about levels of noise and dust that the quarry would create.

The site has been earmarked by the county council for mineral extraction.

'Below ground'

John Gough, planning manager for Mick George, said: "The principle of mineral extraction has already been established following a consultation exercise which culminated in a public hearing in 2010."

The company said it was trying to work with residents to sort out any concerns they may have and that it had kept up connections with the parish council.

"In reality residents will not see anything of the quarry because it is below ground level," said Mr Gough

Mick George Limited said a planning application was likely to be submitted in late February or early March.
