Northamptonshire homes flooded after heavy rain

A number of homes in Northamptonshire were flooded in the early hours of Sunday.

Fire crews helped householders across the county, including in Corby and Great Oxendon in the north and Chacombe in the south.

The fire service pumped water from roads and ditches to prevent houses flooding in Quinton and Towcester.

On Sunday evening, the Environment Agency (EA) put nine flood warnings in place across Northamptonshire.

The A4500 at Kislingbury remained closed in both directions for several hours due to flooding.

'100mm of rain'

Teams from the EA are continuing to work with local authorities and the emergency services, after 30mm (1in) of rain fell on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

The flood warnings are on eight sections of the River Nene and at Harpers Brook in Brigstock and Sudborough.

Catherine Burbage, from the Environment Agency, said: "100mm (4in) of rain has fallen on the county since Wednesday.

"River levels remain high and will do so for the next few days."

It was forecast to rain through much of Sunday evening, before becoming lighter and more intermittent during the early hours of Monday, the Met Office said.
