Spratton care home extension for dementia patients goes ahead

A major extension is to go ahead at a Northamptonshire care home for people with dementia that received 196 letters of objection.

St Matthews Healthcare is to extend the care home at a former hotel in Spratton from 15 beds to 84.

The original application last year proposed to extend Broomhill Care Home to provide accommodation for 99 people.

Residents living nearby expressed fears about security and the impact on traffic.

The project has been reduced in size and many trees due to be felled under the original plan are to be retained.

The planning committee at Daventry District Council accepted the building would have an impact on the landscape but said this would not outweigh its benefits.

Local people, including Spratton Parish Council, said they objected to the development because it was too big and was in a special landscape area.

Sean Sidhu-Brar, who runs St Matthew's Healthcare, said earlier that a smaller facility would not be economically viable.
