Lee Collins admitted assaulting a man at a pub in Shropshire

Northampton Town footballer Lee Collins has been given a 12 month prison sentence, suspended for two years, for assaulting a man in a pub fight.

Collins, 24, kicked and punched the man during the attack, which happened in Shropshire last year while he was on loan at Shrewsbury Town from Barnsley.

He was ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work and pay £2,500 compensation at Tuesday's hearing at Shrewsbury Crown Court.

Collins had admitted the attack.

He will also be under a night-time curfew for 12 weeks.

Collins joined League Two side Northampton Town in February after being released by Barnsley.
