Northampton magnet fisherman finds 52 old railway explosives in canal

A controlled explosion was carried out after a man who had been magnet fishing pulled up 52 old railway explosives from the Grand Union Canal.

Police were alerted to the finds off Towcester Road, Northampton, at 09:50 GMT.

An Army bomb disposal team conducted the explosion at Far Cotton recreation ground during the afternoon.

Northamptonshire Police has previously warned of the dangers of magnet fishing saying it can be "extremely dangerous".
