Man arrested after fatal crash on A45 in Northamptonshire

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a man died on the A45.

Police said a Vauxhall Astra van hit a Volkswagen Golf, which was having its wheel changed following a puncture, between the Earls Barton and Great Billing junctions in Northamptonshire.

A 26-year-old man from Cambridgeshire, who was with the Golf, died at the scene at about 22:25 GMT on Sunday.

A 67-year-old man from Northampton, who was in the van, is in police custody.

Northamptonshire Police has called on anybody who saw, or has footage of, the incident to contact them.

The westbound carriageway between the A509 at Wellingborough and the A5076 at Great Billing was closed for about 11 hours following the crash and reopened at about 09:45 GMT on Monday.
