Corby Pride held a parade through the town centre

A town's first ever Pride event was "making history", one of its organisers said.

Corby hosted a parade from the Cube through the town, with entertainment through the day in Coronation Park.

The event has been put together by the town council during Pride month, which celebrates the LGBTQ+ community.

Callum Reilly, chair of the Pride committee in Corby, said the town "does itself proud when we have events like this and we all come together".

The parade started outside the Cube in James Ashworth VC Square at 12:00 BST and finished half-an-hour later in Coronation Park, with events and entertainment following in the park.

Mr Reilly, also a Corby Town councillor, said: "It means such a lot to our local community.

"We're bringing together lots of people across the community from far and wide, from Corby, the borough, and further afield as well, to get involved in today."

One of the event organisers Callum Reilly said the event was designed to be family orientated

He described the event as a "safe space" which was "testament to everybody within every community".

"Most importantly, this is Corby Pride and this is hopefully us making history and we can see this again as we move forward in the future," Mr Reilly added.

Leanne Buckingham, the town's first lesbian mayor, said Pride was "important for different people in different ways".

She said: "Coronation Park [was] a park gifted to us by the steelworks and now it's being part of the history of the first ever Pride in Corby, and that's a beautiful thing."
