A new urology centre aims to offer all key tests on the same day, resulting in quicker diagnoses of cancer and other conditions, a hospital has said.

The £1.8m centre opened on Monday at Kettering General Hospital, which has seen a 27% rise in urology referrals in five years.

By spring it will have all specialist staff and testing under one roof, which the hospital hopes will speed-up care.

Consultant David Payne said it would also mean "less stress and anxiety".

"Having a one-stop shop service will allow us to see, test, diagnose, and give an individual treatment plan, all in the same hospital visit," he added.

"We are phasing in the service over a number of months and when the service is fully up-to-speed it will mean the number of times patients have to visit the hospital for tests will reduce from as many as five or more down to one or two."

The new centre also means the number of different places patients go to for urology treatments in the hospital goes down from nine to three, the hospital said.
