E-scooter use in Northampton reviewed by council

Councillors have asked people to give their views on e-scooters as they review an ongoing rental scheme.
People have been able to hire the electric two-wheeled vehicles in Northampton since 2020, with expansion to Moulton and Collingtree in August.
West Northamptonshire Council's scrutiny committee has begun assessing the effectiveness of the e-scooters.
Alison Eastwood, vice-chairman of the committee, said: "We want all to have the ability to have their say."
She also said the council "always seeks to address key concerns, working with the police to ensure the scheme meets the safety needs of residents".
The outcomes of the scrutiny review will then be presented to the council's cabinet at a future meeting.
The review could influence whether the trial continues for another two years, and if so, on what basis.
E-scooters are illegal to use on public roads and pavements, external, unless part of a public hire scheme.
Research in 2021 suggested e-scooter riders were more likely to be admitted to a critical care unit than cyclists.
In June this year, a woman urged e-scooter users to wear helmets after her daughter suffered brain damage following an accident in Northampton.
People can contribute their views via the West Northamptonshire Council website, external up until 11 January.
