Kettering liquid nitrogen leak sees cordon removed
- Published
A cordon has been removed after a liquid nitrogen leak near a town.
Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to Cooney Marine on Telford Way Industrial Estate in Kettering shortly before 05:00 GMT.
Two crews of firefighters were in attendance alongside staff from the British Oxygen Company, but by 09:30 the incident had been handed over to the site's supervisors.
Earlier, people had been asked to avoid the area on the outskirts of the town.
Cooney Marine was established in 1968 and the company specialises in steel and aluminium fabrication.
Liquid nitrogen, which has a boiling point of -196C, is used for a variety of things, such as a coolant for computers, in medicine to remove unwanted skin, warts and pre-cancerous cells, and in cryogenics, where scientists study the effect of very cold temperatures on materials.
