Billing Aquadrome evacuated due to flooding

Billing Aquadrome has been closed until further notice after the site flooded

Hundreds of residents at a holiday park have been evacuated for a second time this year due to flooding.

Billing Aquadrome, in Northampton, was forced to take emergency action due to "significant rainfall" earlier.

West Northamptonshire Council said it was helping ensure residents were moved to a place of safety.

"We appreciate that you have only just returned to the park, however your safety must remain our utmost priority," an Aquadrome statement read.

Images shared by the council on X, formerly Twitter, showed water surrounding mobile homes at the site.

It followed a flood warning being issued by the Environment Agency, with concern raised about the River Nene.

"The site is now closed until further notice with no electricity until our electrician contractors can test the supply and get clearance from the National Grid," a statement posted on Billing Aquadrome's Facebook page read.

It said residents would be kept updated via email and social media while the park was made safe.

The evacuation was the second time the Aquadrome had to make emergency interventions in 2024.

Damage inflicted by Storm Henk at the start of the year saw an estimated 2,000 people have to leave the park due to safety risks.
