Tory candidate reacts to Wellingborough by-election loss

The Conservative candidate in the Wellingborough by-election said she was disappointed with the result but did not blame the prime minister for her defeat.

Helen Harrison came second after Labour's Gen Kitchen overturned the Tories' 18,540 majority in 2019 by winning with a majority of 6,436.

As she left the hall, Ms Harrison told journalists "we made a really good effort" and vowed to return to fight the general election.

The by-election was triggered by a recall petition for Conservative MP Peter Bone, her partner, who was found to have breached the code of conduct for MPs.
