The family of a man whose body was found in a river has paid tribute to a "really caring man".

Jayran Curvilie, 20, disappeared on 21 March last year and was found dead in the River Tove in Towcester, Northamptonshire, on 18 April.

His jacket had been found hanging on a gate near the river three weeks earlier.

An inquest into his death held in Northampton on Thursday recorded an open verdict.

Following the inquest, Mr Curvilie's mother Tracey issued a tribute via Northamptonshire Police.

"I miss you Jayran. Life is never going to be the same without you and my heart is broken," she said.

"It makes me so sad thinking of all the things you'll never see or experience. You'll never enjoy holidays again, or have a family - I will never see you have children of your own, my grandchildren.

"You were just 20 years old, and a really caring and trustworthy person. It's such a waste of a life."

She added that his funeral had been attended by many people who loved him, and the whole family was missing him.

A three-day underwater search was carried out in the Watermeadows area of Towcester after Mr Curvilie's jacket was found hanging on a gate in Northampton Road, but his body was eventually found in a different stretch of water.

Recording the open verdict, the coroner said the cause of Mr Curvilie's death was unknown.

Det Ch Insp Johnny Campbell, who led the missing person investigation, said: "Our thoughts remain with Jayran's family and friends who have had to relive the distressing events through the recent inquest proceedings, and we extend our deepest condolences as they continue to come to terms with their loss."
