A busy road in a town has reopened after a lorry struck a railway bridge.

Northamptonshire Police said Rothwell Road in Kettering was shut at the Northfield Avenue junction.

Officers and firefighters attended the scene at 12:00 GMT, before the route reopened at about 13:20.

Police thanked "the majority" of motorists who it said respected the closure. East Midlands Railway has said the bridge was the second-most commonly hit by road traffic on its network.

The Northants Road Policing Team said the driver of the lorry was "reported for the offences committed", but did not disclose what the offences were.
